Absolutely unique and in the middle of the historic center of Amsterdam lies a former industrial gear factory in which artistic and sustainable lofts have been realized (2016). An oasis of calm, yet around the corner from the entertainment of the Nieuwmarkt. The lofts were delivered in shell condition so each apartment has its own character. The architect has transformed this space ( 129 m²) into an amazing loft where light, dimension and scale have been played with. The alternation of the industrial steel trusses with the robust wooden stairs create a warm atmosphere. The unique, freely “hanging” mezzanine does not only provide extra functional living/office space, but it also divides the space into several exciting corners.
This house consists of a first floor and a second floor. It has a very distinctive shed roof consisting of two parts. . Between those parts is a spacious, sunny but sheltered roof terrace. Because of the creatively placed windows, the terrace also provides additional light and surprising viewing lines. . From the living room, with the glass roof at a height of 6.5 meters, you have a beautiful view of the sky. The first floor is actually one large room divided into a sturdy open kitchen with a dining area and sitting area. The dining table forms a whole with the staircase to the mezzanine and is visually also connected with the wooden staircase to the second floor. The second floor consists of a luxurious spacious bathroom and a bedroom. The house offers several options for a different layout, such as creating an extra bedroom.
A unique house in a factory with a rich history, with a front patio that can serve as a covered terrace for summer evenings or as an extension of the house. The patio can be closed by means of a beautiful steel gate. Since the streets around the old factory are car-free, it feels like a large courtyard. In summertime the residents can drink and dine outdoors in their hidden green oasis surrounded by butterflies and blackbirds.
